(Suggestion) Gaming Headset

Thought I'd ask the lovely people here about this. So I'm looking to get a decent gaming headset for my PC, I was looking at a Razer Kraken headset due to the decent reviews and the price range. With that in mind, is there anything just as good/better for the same price/cheaper? My budget is £80 - £100.Cheers!

Depending on whether or not you would like to have a microphone built in I would recommend looking at the beyerdynamic dt 990 pro headphones since they have a good sound stage and higher resistance (250 ohms instead of 32 ohms) which should give you more detail in the higher sound ranges.

I have owned a Razer Kraken, and at first it was alright, but when Razer Synapse 3 came around, dealing with the Kraken's software was an absolute nightmare. And this was like 1 year ago. I would not suggest getting the Razer Kraken. If you don't mind dealing with this, go ahead. Other than the dumpster fire that is Razer Synapse 2, the headset served me well

PC specs:

Ryzen 9 3900X overclocked to 4.3-4.4 GHz

Corsair H100i platinum

32 GB Trident Z RGB 3200 MHz 14-14-14-34

RTX 2060

MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge wifi

NZXT H510

Samsung 860 EVO 500GB

2 TB WD hard drive

Corsair RM 750 Watt

ASUS ROG PG248Q

Razer Ornata Chroma

Razer Firefly

Razer Deathadder 2013

Logitech G935 Wireless

The HyperX Cloud 2 is good headset for the price. but if you are willing to spend a little extra, you could get the pc37x.

I would get open-back studio grade headphones and pair them with a discrete mic. Gaming headsets are garbage compared to the sound quality you'll get.

The AKG 240 are a great deal in the UK right now at 50 pounds. I always see these in studios, they blow much more expensive headphones out of the water.

For a mic, I recommend this Tonor USB Condenser

You do know that you require an amp to make them show their detail completely right? They sound a bit floppy or muddy without one.

I recommend the DT 770 pro (((80ohm))) Because they aren't as hard to drive as the 250ohm. So DT 770 pro 80ohm with a modmic uni. Best combo for gamers imo.

Your question basically has two correct answers and they come down to this, do you care about mic quality?

If no then that USB mic or a modmic or anything is fine just don't expect a cheap USB mic to last at all.

If you do care about mic quality then maybe a Tonne MB88U, Samson Q2U or AT2005 would be much better options, USB mics with XLR just in case you want to upgrade to some fancy stuff in the future.

As for headphones, I don't pretend to be an expert but I'm more than happy with the M20x that I daily drive. I have other options available to me but I'm just most comfortable using them and they don't sound half bad. Ezpz to drive too.

Yes, however in my experience they also sound very nice with the mother board amp build into my PC. Even though these amps vary widely I would still expect them to be able to perform better with the 990 pros than with the Kraken, seeing as my phone can also run them fine. But yes one would need to make sure that a somewhat adequate amp is present.

Yeah. If you have the ALC1220 realtek chip onboard it is not that bad. But when I got my soundcard the headphones just revealed themselves fully to me. I almost got deaf by the treble on my soundcard compared to my onboard. I actually boosted the treble to max on my onboard EQ and now I have to turn it down. That's how big of a difference there is.

BECAUSE YOU WERE RUNNING 250OHM HEADPHONES OFF ONBOARD AUDIO, WE TOLD YOU FROM THE START THAT WAS SILLY.

Sorry for the shouting but you're not noticing how bad onboard was or how great a soundcard is, you noticed the difference between properly powering your high-impedence headphones and being silly.

Don't you think I knew that from the very beginning buying these headphones?? I knew they weren't driven properly. Just giving him an idea how the difference was. At the time I didn't have money for an upgrade.

Thanks for making it clear it was silly. It probably was.
