Lol. I would probably do the same thing . What would be really interesting is if you tried to see how many radiators you could fit inside of it. Lol

:D

not so sure i could, as the top of the case, i would need to cut out some of it, and in the front, the cage for the dvd drive is rivited into the metal of the case.

But in another life, if i was looking to spend far more than i am now, i probably would do what you suggested :D

Next order of business will be to choose the CPU

At the moment, I had considered getting the Pentium G3220, which supports 1333MHz ram

the mobo supports 1600/1333 MHz ram

whereas the cheapest haswell CPU, the i3 4130 supports 1333 and 1600 MHz ram

now, I have found on trademe, similar to your guys amazon or ebay,  two 4GB ram sticks for $50 NZD

the i3 a better option if i can save more on the ram??

Staying with the HP OEM case, interesting.

I know the internal layout quite well, seems like they just change the plastic around.

Anyways, great build man. Are you thinking about painting the inside? (sorry if you already answered this question)

So I'll be buying the i3 4130 in a couple days or so, so i can then get the motherboard in.

Next will be figuring out where the HDD's will be mounted.

Are WD Reds the way to go,or will Greens suffice?

That case looks like a razor blade one each edge...

Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

As I get older I get angrier more cynical, meaner. I feel some warning posts coming. I feel a ban coming. I was warned.

coming along nicely i think

some cable management to do at some point

managed to hide most of the 8 pin connector inside the lip of the case with the help of a cable tie

I still have to figure out how to mount HDD's in there.

the old cage in there, would only hold two drives, so some work to do

So i've been thinking how i will end up mounting the HDD's in the case.

the only real place is in the front of the case, and also having to mount them vertically,(this was the case before i gutted the pc)

I had and old mouse pad sitting about, so i thought that i could use it as a vibration/noise dampening base.

So i cut it to size, and fitted it in the case

I also cut come templates of the HDD, just to show spacing where the drives will end up going, as you'll see in the following pics

post-35775-0-99733100-1395889454_thumb.jpost-35775-0-56739700-1395889458_thumb.jpost-35775-0-51034300-1395889462_thumb.jpost-35775-0-17057700-1395889465_thumb.jpost-35775-0-35736900-1395889468_thumb.jpost-35775-0-90557100-1395889470_thumb.j

I still want/need to make a base type thing to support the drives when mounted vertically.

so i came across this when searching for a way to mount the drives in my case

https://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=15402

looks to be the best way for my case, so will most likely end up getting this

Prepare to cut some of the front panel. These cases aren't built for three 5.25" devices.

Also, I'm sorry, but I just hate looking into that HP case. It just makes me remember the nightmare my system was when I got it. All I need is to see those vents and I had enough...

But I believe that you will be able to mod it into something amazing.
