Netgear D7000 slow wireless download speeds

I am having issues with my Netgear Nighthawk D7000 router. Wired connection is fine I get 60 download and 17 upload, which is my provided speeds. However, on wireless, no matter what device, I am getting fluctuating and slow speeds. It can drop to 0.3 download speeds. I connected to nordVpn on my phone and the speeds shot up to near the wired speeds. So I thought it must be the QOS prioritising traffic. However, the QOS is not enabled on the router. I even enabled it and tested it, then disabled it and tested it, and no change. Please help.

how are you testing speeds? Try using a local network speed test like iperf to remove variables/

what is the phy speeds of the clients?

How busy are the channels you are using? Did you try changing channels?

I've been using the speedtest.net app on my iPhone XS.

How could I test the phy speed between router and iPhone?

I tried different channels, didn't seem to affect it. I don't think this is it as the speed goes from 1 download (without vpn) to 50(with vpn) so it must be something todo with prioritising traffic.

try testing speeds with iperf to remove the impact of your isp here.

The router should show the phy speeds of the wireless devices.
