RAM getting full... or is it ?

dmegatool

So my RAM is getting full. I noticed it like 2-3 days ago when my games were lagging a bit. I was at 97%... I restarded my computer and it fixed it. But gradually, it's starting to be filled again (It's now at 63% with nothing running).

If I check the task manager, the sum of all tasks are pretty far from 16GB. What's going on ?

Scanned, it's clean. Antimalware Service Executable is Windows defender/Security essential...

Run Malwarebytes

I'm sure that "Antimalware Service Executable" isn't very legit

Antimalware Service Executable is windows defender

And what would I look for ? There again, the reported memory used doesn't fit the total.

(I rebooted this afternoon so I'm at 31% right now)...

Maybe Windows is being dumb and reserving too much of your memory?

Think I've found the leak ! Would be related to the Killer network adapter. I updated the drivers (well that ended up reinstalling as it was the same version) and disabled the software that monitors and manage network priorities. I'm now at 18% since yesterday. Fingers crossed...

How to find what's causing a memory leak

If that can help anybody, I used poolmon.exe to find out what was going on. It comes in the Windows Drivers Kit (you need to download it). You spot the faulty process in poolmon.exe (sort by bytes by pressing B ) than use that command in cmd.exe :

findstr /s <Pooltag> *.sys

So for me it was wfpn in poolmon... netio.sys was the driver leaking.

Nope

the easiest way to trace ur steps is probably to see what latest programs you installed was and try to delete it and see if that was the problem. also if you are running virtual machine software turn it off :P that takes the ram located in the virtual machines and "locks" it.

Cool if it can help. I really didn't know how to see RAM used that isn't listed in the task manager.

lol I haven't managed to fill it up yet, even with only 1.75GB used. Guess when you get used to less than 1GB, you're conservative (me and my grandma always open a ton of shit on her's, since she has 8GB, I'm a lot worse though).
