Me in my infinite wisdom decided to set my file system to exfat for my D drive.

But now I need to change it to NTFS.

Is there a way to change it without any data loss?

If not, if I just copy everything off of this to an external ssd. Reformat D to NTFS and paste everything back, will the software installed on D still work?

I'm assuming that there would be system files that won't copy?

Ugh... ignore this comment entirely.

Current PC spec. in my profile.
Can I realistically call myself a gamer, if I only play ONE, twenty year old game...?

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

Every time I tried to post, I re-read the OP & had to edit... then I just gave up as 'outta ideas'.

Try copying (rather than moving) the exFAT 'drive' to the HDD & see if it'll even copy...

When you change File Systems Windows formats the partition. The process of formatting wipes all the data off of it.

With 3rd party software it might be possible to change the FS without data loss but I think your safest/best option is to just copy all your data off of it. Re-format the partition. Then copy it all back.

I can't say this will be the case for all programs & and applications but they should still work after being written back. Worst case scenario you may have to fully reinstall them.

Hahaha thanks
Yeah, I'll try copying all the files off the drive, and see if that work
