Hello,

Finally I found a reason to register on LTT's forum after being a long time fan of their youtube channel.

So, I have a bit of a situation where I'm at, namely, fast internet...

We have a BnB in Italy, tuscany in the middle of the fields. Since early this year our town has received fiber optic network, but we live at about 2km bird's eye view.

This would be a significant uprade for us since we use a hacky system that receives the signal from a town 30km away after bouncing on a mountain even further up. Dail up is faster 😆

So, we can see another BnB who is most probably going to agree if we set up a router at their place, but we need to send the signal to our place somehow and I remember Linus posting 2 video's about long range directional dishes.

25km is a bit overkill for us, we only need 1453 meters (according to google earth) so approx 2km.

What would be a great and reliable system to send over that signal since the market slowely fills with those systems?

It would also be appriciated if the dish is somewhat discrete since the building is protected and we can't just mount anything we like on the wall. I can try paint a thin layer to match the sandstone color.

In the picture you can see 1 and 2, 1 is what I want to reach, 2 is what we currently have. The town blocks the next town so they use a far mountain to sends back the signal.

Thanks!!! Long live dropgate, linus isnt the onlyone!

what system you used before? you maybe can use the same one for shorter distance it would have a better signal.

Yeah you would probably want to use a set of Ubiquiti dishes connecting the two places and then have a couple of Unifi APs or even a Mesh setup at both places. You really have a vide varity of options you can choose from the Ubiquit line up here.

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.

We already run a set of AmpliFi™ Mesh in the place with some extra simple wifi APs in the rooms, but it's mostly what type of antenna's I would need for a not-so-long distance in the hopes of skipping large UFO dishes against the side of the building. The system we use now is capped at 100tx so it's weak, and also unreliable (in winter times the speeds drop to about 10% with an increase of 800ms). Ubiquity is for sure a brand I trust having worked with it a few times already.

When dealing with PtP wireless bridges, you have to take into consideration good line-of-sight, potential obstructions (from trees, buildings, etc.) and interference (from neighbouring WiFi signals). If you choose to use Ubiquiti gear, they have quite a selection (airFiber, airMax, LTU), but I'd advise you to get professional to make a good assessment.

Take a look at this video to get an idea of what you should consider when making a decision.

Thanks for the replies.

I have also contacted Ubiquity with the same question and they were kind enough to answer on a Saturday. Another reason why to chose them over other brands!

They suggested me the Gigabeam LR, airFiber 60 and above. They both have about the same specs at about 100€ price difference. So in the end x2.

Also, I do like to challenge myself as a IT enthusiast and will never trust any Italian technician again. They have messed up every single job we have ever asked, sold us tons of cheap Chinese crap (promoted by various companies) and will continue to do so to "strangers" (I am Belgian, but lived for 10 years in Italy). Most end up in bankruptcy to avoid paying taxes and run away with customers money, then start a new company the next day.

I have set up a few Ubiquity devices but never played with extra long range devices, challenge accepted xD

So, Distance, check. LOS, check. POE, check. Speed, check. Am I missing something? Can the sender be plugged in straight into the router/modem (FtitzBox) or do I need any proprietary IU hardware in between?
