GPU won't fit in all the way

Ben Mills

Hi everyone

I bought a new case which is the ' Phanteks Eclipse P300 ATX ' ( link below) and my 2060 doesn't click into the pcie 16x. i can get it about 60/70% of the way in.

i have a mini itx board as i had a SG13B before this case and fit fine - i have attached some photo's below as well as my full specs.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,

Ben

might be annoying but if you pull the board out of the case does it fit?

your rear I/O on the gpu isn't lining up with the slot so perhaps something isn't assembled right on the case

Does the clip at the back clip in? If yes it's pretty much fully in.

If the retaining clip at the end is engaged and the expansion card plate is all the way in, then that's probably where it should be.

As a suggestion, take a flash light, preferably a bright LED one, and look in the slot to see if there's debris in it. If the card doesn't appear to be "rocking" in the slot, there's likely no debris. Not all expansion cards go 100% down, as there's usually some give in the MB itself, and as long as the MB isn't mis-aligned this should be correct.

If it's the same MB you had before, check if the back or front of the GPU isn't resting on top of a capacitor or a cable, another thing that people sometimes don't realize is that sometimes the OEM cheats and puts things in bad places, so there's sometimes like a 2mm clearance and a cable running along it is enough to make something in that slot not go in all the way..

Hi everyone -

I took my pc apart and the gpu fits inside the pcie 16x slot perfectly ( outside the case )

This probably sounds ridiculous but it's almost like the gpu isn't long enough to fit all the way in as the mounting holes are correct but depth wise not long enough

i have checked for cables underneath and for any capacitors and the left side just won't go in despite the right side clicking into place. The left side is probably 20% in :\

Can anyone help? ( Images below )

  • 2 years later...

Did you ever find out why the gpu won't fit all the way in? I'm having the same problem with my 3080 FE. I was reading somewhere that it could be that you're not using the correct standoffs for your case. I might be changing mine soon to see if that's the problem.
