Unusual spotting/leak on mobo

Hi all,

I was repasting my CPU and installing a mem-card reader a few days ago and noticed this unusual residue on my mobo. Performance has not diminished as far as I can tell, no unusual behavior to speak of, it just took me by surprise.

 

I've got the computer reassembled and running right now, nothing has changed.

 

Any thoughts? Should I be concerned? System specs are in my signature.

Probably the thermal paste/ oily thing from the thermal pad 

It's not conductive so nothing to worry about

Is it just me, or is there a chunk missing from the hole directly below the spill? Also, the center of that spill? There's supposed to be an IC there.

I thought the same thing lol now you've got me really curious! I've got one picture that might show that it was missing when I first built the computer.

Zooming in as much as possible, it does look silver rather than black, so it could already be missing. But it's too pixelated to be certain.

 

It's hard to image it "blew up", but at the same time it doesn't look like it was removed cleanly either. Since it's still working, the component doesn't seem critical. But might still be a good idea to contact ASUS about it and ask them if that IC is supposed to be missing

Just to update, I've received several emails (hard to decipher at times) from ASUS support, and essentially they are calling this "customer induced damage" which voids warranty as per section 7-3 in their policy. I don't know that it's possible to prove I didn't do the damage so I'm sol (though I'll take this as a learning opportunity for future builds to do a thorough once-over to be sure nothing is missing...not sure how this passed their QC, but it is what it is). Thank you guys for your responses.
