i9-9900K present (replace i7-8700k?)

I got home from work this morning to see a box on my desk. Opening it up I find a i9-9900k. Reading the card, I find that my kids along with my parents have bought me an upgrade! Im happy with my 8700k, but I don't want to disappoint them and not make use of the CPU... What is a proud dad to do? Return it and get them their money back for something I really could use? Put it in my system and use the 8700 for another build? My kids can't use it, they all have Ryzen based systems that I just built them this past Christmas. I know my system can handle the 9900k, but argh... What would you do?

What would you do?

  1. Throw a hissy fit.
  2. Yell at the kids about how they still haven't learned that Ryzens are far better value for the money and they should god damn learn it by now.
  3. Fill the kids bowls of cereal, then proceed to piss in their cereal.
  4. Pop a ragevein.
  5. Proceed to die on the floor with foam frothing at the mouth, while gripping the 9900k in your dying hands, so the kids can only get it back over your dead body.

Or sell the 8700k or use it for a NAS/home-server/guest PC and use the 9900k for yourself, and thank the kids for the lovely gift.

@WereCatf !!!ROLF!!!

Yes value is correct. My next build plan is Zen3 when it comes out. Been saving for the new GPUs this fall.

@TofuHaroto I just don't know if its worth the small gain and the thermal paste at this point!

Tried to see if my brother in law wanted to use the 8700k, but he just went and bought a Ryzen 3700 system.
