My 144hz ain't working.

I have a "ACER GN246HL" and I just got a 2070, before I was using a dvi port to get my 144hz and it worked fine. I went to memory express and bought a DVI to Displayport adapter and I cannot get my 144hz to work. I'm capped on 60Hz. 
Any Suggestions?

Note before my 2070. I had a 1060.

Does the 144hz option show up on your nvidia control panel?

Sounds like the adapter is 60hz capable only

Not really scammed, most display adapters are 60hz. The only ones that aren't are called active adapters and they are pretty expensive.

It doesn't say anywhere its 144hz capable, and its passive - I believe you need an Active adapter to achieve the 144fps.

Active adapters are $100+ if that seems worth it to you go for it, if not just buy a newer monitor with display port. I'd rather have a solid connection with display port than use an adapter personally.
