Gigabit Saturation?

Go to solution Solved by Senzelian,

10Gig is really unnecessary in your use case.
You'd throw hundreds of euros out the window.

Hello everyone,

im currently in the process of remodelling the office of my parents. We are sharing the same router and I thought about upgrading their networking to 10Gigabit. But I don't know if it really is necessary. We have 100Mbit Upload / 40Mbit Download provided by Telekom. The router is a FritzBox 7590 which only has four 1Gbit connections. I want to run glassfiber trough our attic to connect two 10Gbit switches. In my mind that way the connection between the two switches cant be saturated by the two PCs and the telephone system. But on the other hand the switch in my room is only connected with 1Gbit to the router.

My biggest question is, can a Gigabit Connection be saturated by two PCs surfing and two calls from IP-Telephones?
If so, would a 10Gbit link help, when the router only can handle Gigabit?

Thanks alot for reading :)

Well, firstly think about what it is that you're saying. Your ISP plan is 100/40. Gigabit is 1000.

No, unless they're transfering files in the Gigabyte range to a local server moving to 10Gig will do nothing.
