You get more radiation living in Denver, Colorado than you do living in the city of Fukushima...

 

I'm not making this up at all, you can check for yourself and see the radiation level statistics not just from the Japanese government, but from anti-nuclear organizations such as greenpeace.

it always did annoy me in fallout games though the lack of nuclear winter though. The sun would not shine on the ground for a good 40+ years if the amount of warheads exploded as in fallout.

I don't know the lore of fallout very well so I don't know. But 40 is still the minimum. If Fallout takes place over 100 years after the event they are clear :P
