What are we talking about here?

My experience with Eaton's mechanical products has been nothing but fantastic.

Just the fact the eaton managed to not put locking nuts in linus's ups which lead to a fire

What if they made those mistakes more often then we thought

Well, I don't know much about their electrical products.

But in many mechanical product segments Eaton is widely regarded as the standard to beat, and for good cause.

I believe that in this particular case the Eaton product was not installed correctly, since Linus did mention and admit that a Eaton rep did not do an after install inspection and the 6 month check-ups were not performed the event would have been avoided and not cost him the monies that it did. Big lesson learned.

I have a buddy that works with battery systems, I could ask what the cost difference would be but for the sake of conversation I can see what your saying but in any case the fact that Linus did not have the inspections would have cost him much more had the system gone up in flames.

matters how much those inspections were and what they entailed. and he would have had 6-7 had he followed their recommendation which I'd expect are not cheep

Yes definitly

Just to add; had the installation gone the proper way and if the Eaton rep done the inspection after the install they "may have" found the fault at the start. Really hard to say. Linus admitted no inspections ever took place, either after the install or on the 6 month expected by warranty.

Honestly if the equipment failure wasn't going to be filmed and shown Eaton may have had Linus chew on the full bill of replacement but this was a good public relations opportunity for Eaton, not that they really needed it though. But in this situation and knowing what was explained in the video and Eaton's product reliability Eaton probably didn't want to look culpable in the slightest and decided to fit part of the bill. Good on them in a way.

the fact that they changed it in newer models makes me suspect there was an issues but they never put out a service alert to that because they assumed everyone was having it inspected.

True, and hopefully Linus learned that lesson. I recall him mention that they be having those done in the future.

I wish he would have made that a little more obvous cus everyone blames him but if the old system was so good why change it.

Yeah he kind of laughs it off a bit and skirts around that a bit.

Changes in the equipment is not that uncommon, battery tech has been advancing quite a bit lately. And from what I could tell those buses in the bad unit did not look like the best design, to me anyhow, but I am not an expert in that area /shrug.

that is not really battery just moving power. if it was a bad design anther reason to put out a notice and maybe offer an intensive to replace but no  one does that.
