The motherboard can sit on anything that isn't conductive, that can't short anything on the bottom of the motherboard. Can also sit directly on the wood of the desk/table but in that case you'd have difficulty inserting pci-e cards into slots.

 

Plain cardboard of the box , a few sheets of paper , a plastic bag ... all will be fine.

 

The shiny bag the board comes in may or may not be conductive (depends if it's antistatic or static dissipative and also depends on construction of the bag) ... basically if not sure, avoid and don't use it.
