should i upgrade or scrap it?

Judging from his parts, he'd need a new motherboard regardless. Not only that, the price difference between the two you'd have quite a bit of money towards a new motherboard.

What’s wrong with the current mobo

it can't handle a 9900K man it's a bottom shelf micro atx part...it's meant for the 8400 i5 which he as and is perfectly fine for gaming.

NO NO NO, he meant for the 9900K (WHICH WOULD BE A STUPID BUY)

your curent 6 core CPU will do the job perfectly FINE, trust me.

Go on with the list i suggested and you wont be disapointed.

The 8400 can’t handle a 2080 or super. My mom has one And ive used it, it’s not powerful enough, so what’s wrong with upgrading

if you game at 1440p wiht a 2070 super on high settings you'll get your beautiful 75 to 120FPS in games...that CPU can provide ample gaming performance with an appropriate monitor resolution and graphics card combo.

Maybe at 1080p with a RTX 2080 if you aim for high FPS you'll get into CPU limitation.

But if you play on high settings you'll get very smooth gameplay at 1440p especially with a variable refresh rate monitor.

Not saying the i5-8400 is the end all be all of CPU's...but he's got a lot more important upgrades to perform than a CPU and motherboard..

so what parts do you suggest

I'd just suggest waiting. Or, if you're going to spend money now, get something like a used GTX 1070 or RX 580.

People are starving for new tech...cards havn't launched in almost 2 years by the time they'll launch...planet in crysis...factory closed for months...evertyhing cost more every day...lots of shit go out of stock and or cost a lot more...why would nvidia give us anything...i think (i'm SURE) the prices on these cards will be very prohibitive...AND they will STILL run out of stock everywhere all the time.

Yes, and that's normal (launch time).

Most things aren't costing more every day. Some electronics, sure, but the supply chains won't take long to start back up.

I don't think they'll overprice the cards at all.

so is that a good plan ur no

personally...if i was in your position...with some money to upgrade...and stuck with a 1050ti and struggling...i would defenetly get at least the PSU and a new graphics card...

AND...i would shoot for something that can do 1440p gaming easily...like a GTX 1080/1080ti used...OR a 2070/2070 Super or RX 5700XT (which is another can of worms in itself)

AND a 1440p monitor and i would enjoy the latest games on high settings 1440p. NOW. BEOFRE THE CARDS ALL SOLD OUT! if you look...MOST interesting stuff on pcpartpicker right now...is OUT OF STOCK.

motherboard and CPU are fine, what games are you playing/looking to play? online? story mode etc? What kind of a gamer are you?

well...you need to check if you play a lot of indie games and poorly optimized stuff that use only a couple threads and wants high CPU clock speeds then...

i was considering more of an all around gamer who plays games like battlefield for example, far cry, tomb raider, assassin's creed, Doom, resident evil, etc...you know that kind of jazz...do you want better graphics (modern games, higher resolution, high detail settings) or more performance (''lower end'' games, pubg, esport stuff, indie...tarkov, lower graphics details and high FPS at 1080p high refresh rate type of stuff) in which case a faster CPU would help, but i DOUBT you'd get your money's worth chasing that route...you r CPU should do fine even in those type of games unless you want to get competitive and ''MAX OUT'' csgo for example... :D which always makes me laugh cause i think its dumb...but hey whatever floats your boat.

OCULUS is awesome, consider a racing wheel if you have any interest in cars or racing what so ever...it's amazing...lots of sim...awesome out there!

I would. Or, buy something like a 1070 now, sell it when the new cards come out for almost the same (if you get a decent price), and buy a new card then.

Intel Core i5-8400 Processor 2.80GHz

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB GDDR5

16gb of ram

1TB 7,200RPM Hard Drive

so do you think I should upgrade it or just get a new one all together I have 1200 dollars to spend

Keep the ram and the drives, case and maybe the powersupply. Scrap the rest and go for a new build, 9th gen intel is arguably worse than 8th gen since you don't get hyper threading on the lower end stuff.
