So, recently, i built a pc. my build is as follows:

Ryzen 7 2700 w/ wraith spire cooler

16gb 3200mhz DDR4 ram

asrock b450 steel legend matx motherboard

CoolerMaster 550W 80 plus bronze PSU

samsung 860 evo 500gb SSD

seagate barracude 2tb hdd

gigabyte rtx 2060 oc

computer runs perfectly fine , during normal use it runs fine.

gaming is also fine, everything performs smoothly at all times and my temps stay at around 50 degrees celcius for my gpu and my cpu at around 40 degrees c (most likely because i play cs go on low settings and resolution lol)

my problem is that after a while of playing, the game will just close itself. and sometimes it will just freeze and i will have to go into task manager to end the task. ive tried reinstalling the game, ran memory diagnostics (no issues came up) and the problem still persists. time between game app crashing can vary from 15 minutes in to an hour in, its fairly random. while i mainly play cs go, i do play a tiny bit of overwatch and call of duty, they both run great but have both crashed on me once.

i have a few suspicions as to what the problem is, when i was building the pc, i noticed the cornermost pin on my cpu was bent and it would not fit into the cpu socket. i have no idea how it happened, anyway, i decided to risk it and i was able to bend the pin back to an upright position. and it fit in the motherboard. i basically prayed the rest of the build that it would work and turn on and thankfully enough it did turn on. i ran some benchmarks (cinebench and a few games) and it looked great. now im wondering if that could be causing these issues.

my other two suspiscions is that my either my mobo or psu may be potential bottlenecks and are causing this issue.

an interesting point is that the pc itself has never once crashed in the 3 weeks ive been using it. only games and the crashes are never preceeded with heavily dropping frames or performance, its runnning perfectly one second and the next it's frozen and the app closes itself.

one thing i havent tried yet and i will when i am next at my pc is reinstalling the latest graphics card drivers. i have the latest installed already but will reinstall them

anyways, yeah, kind of stuck atm lol. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

I recently built a pc.

performance wise everything runs perfectly fine, however, every now and then my games will crash out of nowhere.

ive noticed that my gpu will randomly spike from around 50% usage to 100% right at the moment my game will crash. and only for a second before it goes back to normal.

what can cause this?

do i have a faulty motherboard or psu? or something else...

windows and everything else is fine during the gpu spike, it doesnt crash. the only thing that crashes is the game.

specs:

ryzen 7 2700

16gb 3200mhz ram

550W 80 plus bronze power supply

asrock b450 steel legend motherboard

phanteks p300a

seagate barracuda 2tb

500gb samsung evo ssd

gigabyte rtx 2060

help is much appreaciated, cheers.

The GPU should always be at about 99% usage... Unless you have vsync on or something that is limiting FPS. So right off the bat this is a question.

so my games have been crashing since i built my pc about a month ago, ive clean installed all drivers, clean installed windows multiple times, problem still occurs.

what ive noticed is that the problem will only occur sometimes, what i mean by that is some days when i turn my pc on and use it, it will work perfectly fine all day without crashing. then if i turn it off at the end of the day and use it the next day games will crash within the first few minutes. currently, ive had no issues for 2 days, games have run perfectly fine, played for long sessions without a hitch, but i also havent turned my pc off in 2 days because i know that if i do, the problems will start up again, what can cause this?

Is the XMP/DOCP profile enabled for your memory?

Does your 2060 have a factory overclock?

What exact model PSU are you using, and how old is it?

Are you running the latest BIOS and chipset drivers?

Okay then I doubt it's the PSU, it should be enough to handle a 2060 and 2700 at stock.

Firstly, try disabling the XMP profile and see if that fixes it.

If that doesn't do it, download something like MSI Afterburner and downclock the GPU core and/or max out the power limit.

ok i'll try that thanks, do you think maxing out the power limit will change anything? my gpu doesnt go under heavy load because i basically only play counter strike at low settings and afterburner says its only at around 50% usage while playing and never goes much higher than 50 degrees c.

also, ive monitored gpu usage and power draw with gpu z during crashes and it doesnt spike when the game crashes. and nothing shows up in the event viewer.

Maybe if it really is the GPU that's causing the crashing, hence why I'd try disabling XMP first and checking the memory's not the culprit.
