Old Enterprise Server but silent

Last Week i bought an old Enterprise 1 U Server for cheap. It is an old x3550 ibm m3 Server.

There is only 1 loud Problem.

The Fans are realy loud.

I place the Server in a spare supply room in my flat but it is still as loud as a Hair dryer next to me.

Is there a was to Damp the Sound and If yes what Tools Would i need.

take the lid off it and replace the heatsinks with normal ones ,

it's loud because it's forcing a tons of air through a super thin chassis. it doesn'r need to do this if it's not in a giant stack of chassis so just directly cool the components that need it

Outside of really thick walls, can't think of much else you can do. It's a 1U server, those are inherently loud and should be placed in a proper server room. The fans in those things are 40mm and the only way to get such small fans to push enough air to cool everything is to run them at high RPMs.

You could unplug the fans and run the server lidless, but you'll probably run into overheating issues.

It's a server, likely it'll check for lack of fans and refuse to run.

Dell PowerEdge servers do this.

There's not much you can do to quiet a 1U server sadly.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

Ist Turns on but after 5 minutes in Windows Server there is a shutdown. Because of 1 Missing Fan.

OK so If i cant quiet down the Server can i Soundproof the small room?
