Why does it use power pins

Each yellow wire is equal to 12V

It should have 2x6pin or one 8-pin

The official one has one 8-pin 

 

Looks like the ASUS ROG STRIX model has a PWM fan connector on it, that's the cyan line on the right. The yellow line on the right is a RGB connector.

 

Other third party versions may have different things on them.

The 980 Ti has a 6-pin and an 8-pin, the RTX has one 8-pin. There's nothing weird here.

Your new GPU uses less power because it's a x60 Tier, your old GPU uses more power because it was a x80 Ti tier. 

 

There is roughly a 4x performance difference between a 60 and an 80, with a Ti usually having another 20% on top of the 80. Relatively speaking that 980Ti is only 13% less performance than the 2060S.

 

So 8-pin power means it needs 150watts of power. 6-pin power means it needs 75. So when it has 2x6 or 1x8, that means it needs 150 watts, and if it needs 1 1x8 and 1x6 then it needs 225watts. It's entirely possible to see a GPU with 2x8 and 1x6, and pull more than 300 watts. Those aren't typical.

Other than a Titan board, the most power you can reasonable expect is for the RTX 2080 Super, which is 250 watts (1x6 and 1x8).

generally technology becomes more energy efficient over time, not less. if I'm not mistaken, the 980ti used like 75w more.
