Budget (including currency): $10,425

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: SolidWorks, VXModel, Rhino, Photoshop, Gaming

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): This will primarily be a CAD workstation, I work with extremely large assemblies in SolidWorks and also do some rendering.  I do plan to overclock because SolidWorks does not support multi-threading. So single CPU performance is extremely important when modeling.  However, when it is rendering, it is does support multi-threading.  All my peripherals will be taken from my current PC. Gaming will be secondary to CAD modeling but anything above 30-40 FPS would be fine, though I think it won't be an issue.

Here is my parts list on PC Part Picker.

A couple of other things I should mention, The thermaltake cooler is only temporary, I've already gone about $900 over budget, but I'm buying this for myself and I really didn't have a total end budget to begin with, I just started buying parts when I had 10k saved up.  I'll probably invest another $5-600 on a bigger water cooler setup and more case fans as my budget allows. Recommendations on reliable and quiet RGB case fans and cooler setups would be appreciated.  Also, PCpartpicker shows the vidya card as a PNY but I used an HP, they are not significantly different.

Oh yeah, I'd also like opinions on aesthetics.  It's got a lot of RGB and will have more later, plus I could do color coolant if I wanted and could use some help developing an overall aesthetic for the system.

By aesthetics, I mean, light choices and color configuration.  I have already made a couple aesthetic choices like the case and the mobo, so I am looking to make them shine.

Why such an expensive motherboard ? You are paying an extra $500 over the standard Z490 Extreme for a water block that you don't need. Just go with something cheaper like the Aorus Master or Vision D etc.

That was purely an aesthetic choice, I saw it and liked the look immediately. I checked the specs and it worked well with the parts I was planning, so I went for it.

It is a lot of money to pay out just for aesthetics. You could save $919 just by going with the Aorus Master. There are loads of nice looking Z490 boards though that cost a fraction of the Waterforce.

While most of the time budget would be a valid argument, I believe I have made it clear that it isn't this time.  I mean, I don't plan to go off and spend $50k on it, but and extra $900 for the mobo isn't going to break the bank by any stretch of the imagination. I am sorry if I came across as implying such, but let me reiterate, my budget stated budget of 10k is only a rough number and and I am not going to hold myself purely to it.  I am building the system I want and it can include things like expensive parts that are there purely for the aesthetic, so long as they also function to increase the power of the system.  And let me be clear, out of all the mobo's I looked at, this is the first one that really jumped out at me. The specs are near the top end of most scores I've seen for Z490 mobo's, therefore it is a perfectly acceptable choice for me. Now I am mainly looking for critiques of the system itself, bottlenecks that might get in the way of performance.

The case is NOT good. Higher price does NOT equate to a better product when it comes to cases. If you want a big ass tower like that, the Enthoo 719 is a good pick, but if you're just gushing over RGB for your CAD PC, I'd go with the Coolermaster H500M, as you can keep the massive 200mm ARGB fans at the front and put a 360mm rad up top for your CPU and stick whatever RGB fans you want on it.

I'm not married to the case like I am the mobo.  This was simply one that seemed nice. Of the two you recommend, the Cool Master one seems nice. I do plan to do front and top radiators, but is it okay to leave those 200mm's on the front if I have a 360 radiator with it's fans also on the front? They look cool and I think I'd like to leave them on. Also, what's your take on the Thermaltake View 71?

It's "okay" but noot the best for performance, as the 200mm fans wont rewally push any air through the fans, and the inside 10mm fans will likely depedning on staic pressure and CFM rating, pull more air through the rad than the 200mm pushes normally, so they  might actually start to hinder the 120mm fans.

I'm generally opposed to any case with front glass and fans behind them meant to act as intake. It's never a good idea and almost always ends in a user complaining abut overheating because they build high end systems and OC in them.

High ends builds require High end airflow.

That is pretty solid advice, thank you. I think it'll be the Cool Master

So, I ended up not using the Cool Master.  Like I told @TVwazhere, I hadn't really found a case that jumped out at me so I was open to changing the case to a more effective one. Well, just as I was about to get the Cool Master I found one that jumped out at me; the Thermaltake Core P7. I only plan to use the center section initially until I have the cooling system built up, but I think it will make it easy to expand later on.
