Qi charging coil under mousepad

WolfTech

I own an extended mousepad that works great for my needs, but the only thing I wish it had is Qi charging for when I put my phone next to the keyboard.

Do you guys think buying a Qi charging coil and strapping it under the mousepad could work? Could there be any safety concerns like maybe... fire hazard?

Thanks in advance!

nope! people embed them under desks in a cut out.  My only concern would be the thickness of the charging coil. It would make a large lump under the mousepad. I could see it working if you had a thick mousepad and cut out a hole underneath for it. or cut a hole in your desk and put the mousepad over it.

You thought "Gee, Donald Trump sure has a great build!"

Sure, there's no reason why it wouldn't work. @DarthSmartt mentioned the thickness of the charging-pad being an issue, but you could always open the pad up and take the coil out, extend the wires by a few centimeters and place the coil under the mousepad and toss the PCB in a plastic project-box or similar. Or you could buy a bare set on eBay or similar, like e.g. in the picture below. Just don't buy the cheapest possible Chinese crap, since they often don't have any safety-features.

Another problem is those things crack extremely easily, I've had one before
