Hey I recently bought a prebuilt PC from microcenter. It seems to shut down whenever it is under a moderate to heavy load. This happens when the cpu utilization hits anything close to 100% or randomly when I'm gaming. I get no error message. It just shuts down completely like I pulled the power cord out of the outlet and I just have to power it back on. The highest temp I get while my cpu is under load is 68 degrees. So I don't think it's a problem with overheating. Also my RX 5700 Xt Nitro+ isn't performing how it should. I almost never get 90+ fps in games other than Apex at 1440p. I'm thinking the problem might be the PSU. Let me know if you need any additional info. This is my first time asking for help on a site. I usually Google the problem and look for solutions lol.

MOTHERBOARD - ASRock B450M/ac
Processor - AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (3.7GHz)
Memory - 16GB of DDR4 2666
GPU - Sapphire RX 5700 xt Nitro+
Power Supply
600 Watt
Combined +12V Rating
552 Watts (46A)

Oh the min is 45... Max 70... The current temp is 68. These are the numbers I'm getting from hwmonitor. For some reason streamlabs OBS (streaming program) randomly pushes my cpu usage above 70%. It seems something is holding my rig back as a whole.

Have you tried playing with resolution and settings? Reinstalling drivers?  Can you switch out the PSU easily? This is definitley a long shot but, try reseating your ram

Yea ive played with the resolutions and settings in games. I basically get the same performance at 1080p and 1440p. I used DDU and reinstalled my gpu drivers and it didn't help. I was going to go to microcenter to get a new psu but I wanted to rule everything else out first. I will try to reseat my ram as soon as I finish streaming. The ram and psu are the two parts of this system that I'm not sure about. I got this built at a pretty low price. So something tells me they cut corners somewhere.

To be honest, the specs actually look pretty decent, but then, one must always express caution since this is a pre built computer. I wouldn't trust one with a ten foot pole. I'd rather have mines built from scratch, that way I know absolutely every piece that went into it. And, the RX 5700XT has been the cause of much heartache. I wouldn't be surprised if your GPU is the problem. I cannot in good conscious recommend it to anyone because of it. It single-handedly caused a mass exodus of vast swaths of AMD customers.

Yea I wish I would have just built it from scratch. I know it's not the 5700xt. I was having this problem when I had the 580 but I do wish I would have gotten an Nvidia card. A part of me wants to return it and get a 2070 super or something

Yeah, well here is to hoping that a power supply replacement solves the issue. If not, the motherboard itself is likely the problem. This is what I am finding out time and again just doing a simple search on reddit. Its become a great source of information for me when it comes to motherboards. I haven't seen anything particularly bad about yours, but I still wouldn't be surprised if its the reason why the computer keeps shutting down. Its been styled as being good for gaming, but it can't be that good being as cheap as it is. The cheaper the product, the more cheaply its made. And when you replace the power supply, don't just go by the 80 plus rating or the wattage, make sure it says it has these protections.

OVP (Over Voltage Protection)
UVP (Under Voltage Protection)
OCP (Over Current Protection)
OPP (Over Power Protection)
SCP (Short Circuit Protection)
OTP (Over Temperature Protection)

Okay I will remember those protections. I'll probably choose the psu tonight and pick it up from microcenter tomorrow. I really hope it isn't the mother board. At this rate, I'll have no components from the prebuilt left lol. I was better off just building it lol. I appreciate the help though. I always thought that it was weird that the specs on my prebuilt didn't say anything about the rating... Only the wattage

Yeah, they tend not to say much about the power supply or even the motherboard itself, which is odd since they are by far the two most important parts of a computer. I wouldn't go any lower than a platinum rated PSU, and make sure the wattage it provides goes beyond what is "recommended" for your GPU. In fact, I think your power supply is the issue, because the one you have now doesn't really meet what they recommend for your particular GPU. In the link below, it says 650 watts is recommended, and you only have 600 watts. It does say you meet the "minimum", but I'd never go by that, especially if I am trying to play a video game, or any other type of demanding application. I wouldn't go any lower than an 850 watt power supply, if not 1000w.

Yea I'm gonna go for an 850 watt. I was thinking that they skimped on the psu and it isn't giving my gpu enough juice to truly perform. When I stream on twitch, it probably pushes the psu over the edge lol

😒 Yeah, so not an 80+ rated power supply. They put a cheaply made piece of shit in your computer.

The efficiency rating has nothing to do with it. We have a tier list (linked in my signature) for this very reason.

Of course not, but I'd buy I good PSU that had lower efficiency. There are some really efficient power supplies that are also terrible. Take a look at the tier list.

🤨 Terrible as in the lack of voltage/temperature protections? Its odd that a power supply can be both efficient, yet terrible at the same time. That would make for one hell of an advertisement for an F-150. 😆

i had the same exact problem like yours, i hate to admit, it's also a psu problem. and it happened to be cooler master too. mine was V550S (semi-modular). a high-mid end unit.

i used to overclock a bit and it developed random shutdown and hard reset over the years. at the end it refused to start, not even shorting green and black with a pin.

i swapped for a cheapo brick with unknown maker and it booted, therefore im pretty sure it's the psu. i go to the their site and found out it still within the 5-year warranty, so i contacted CM and the vendor, tell them my unit is not working and showed them the video of my machine running with the cheapo brick, and my cm brick wont start while the pins are shorted. they were happy to send me a new one if i can ship back the faulty unit back to them, so i did just that. a week or so later, i received a brand new V550 with fully modular cables.

this is by no means i wont recommend cooler master's products, they make some of the best value psus in the market and it's my go to recommend brand back when i work at a pc chop shop.

what it means is, like all consumer products, psus can fail, even within warranty, but the oods are really rare. even so if your product is not a high end one.

you should always check your warranty.

80 plus is just a marketing thing, it has nothing to do with stability, nor does it mean a manufacturer's following products still live up to the rating.

all it tests is efficiency, while it generally need good components to reach those efficiency curve, by no means a cheap products is necessary worse than corsair ones. it does however, is the brand have extra marketing cash to send unit to get it certified, or pay oem a bit more to get units with the badge.

for example, corsair, fractal and antec doesnt make psus, they have some designs into it, but it's down to buying existing units from oem.

like huntkey, great wall, fsp, delta, seasonic.

seasonic and cooler master however, design, manufacture and market their product in house.

why everybody post the spec of their rig here? i dont! cuz its made of mashed potatoes!
