Oh awesome! So what do you think about my psu situation in the end? :)

Should be perfectly fine with the 550W.

At least until further notice on how the CPU behaves when overclocked, etc. :)

Hello guys! First time posting.

TLDR: Is my 550w gold psu enough for an i7 10700KF + 2070 Super?

I have preordered a z490m motherboard and the i7 10700KF, and I'm worried that my psu (EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G3, 80 Plus Gold 550W) might not be enough.

Other than those 2 parts, I have 2x8gb ddr4 ram @ 2400mhz, 3x500gb ssds, 1x120gb m2, 1x250gb m2. I also use 2 monitors and not much of anything else, other than a regular keyboard, mouse, bluetooth dongle... and an xbox controller receiver.

Am I safe to even try turning on the new build (when the new mobo + cpu arrive) or should I outright order a 650w+ psu now?

Thank you!

Hello and welcome.

I saw some leaked slides and it appears that CPU can pull 300 Watts+ so I'd say get a higher capacity PSU.  However, I also saw something where at 235 Watts it was hitting 90*C+ so you may not have the cooling capacity to require a higher capacity PSU.

I was speaking about the 10900K and not about your 10700K.  Please disregard.

If you decide on a new PSU try to shop in the 750 Watt range.

Do you think there's any risk in trying to turn the computer on with the 550w psu? Or would it just not turn on / shut down after a few?

If there's no risk, I could try to make it work with the psu I have and buy a 750w one if that fails.

What do you think?

Why would you pre-order something before even NDA have been released?

Reviews aren't even out yet.

Considering it is still on 14nm technology... it could have similar/identical performance as a i9-9900K.

(At least, those were some of the speculations)

Also leaked information of the extensive binning process to get enough i9 chips...ehhh...things could get complicated for the 10th Gen i7's and below...

Well, Intel is having stock issues. If I wait till all reviews are published, it might be too late to get one for a while. And I can return it within 30 days no questions asked if it doesn't work out anyways.

Seems very low risk to preorder considering that.

Also, disregard everything I said.  I was speaking about the 10900K and you've ordered a 10700K.  I'm an idiot.

Nice, thanks! I won't be overclocking at the start. Once the time is right I'll update to a more powerful psu for that :)
