Is it better to connect a console to a gaming monitor or a tv?

If you have a TV with low input lag (which many have, some don't, some you need to enable 'Game mode' or similar), a monitor and TV could very well be just as good as the other.

Although connecting the Xbox with a Freesync enabled device would be optimal, so of course that gives you another 'variable' to consider.

There is no simple 'yes' or 'no', since there are thousands of monitor and thousands of TV's, all with different specs.

I am going out on a limb to say yes.

A general assumption can be made that a gaming monitor will have better response times, however how much is dependent on the spec of both the gaming monitor and TV. Whether you notice a difference is dependent on your preferences.

Colour accuracy and viewing angles (not sure how much that matters) will depend on comparing the specs.

TVs generally also offer a better screen screen size per dollar.
