no biggie. As long as he's not an alcoholic who drinks vodka everyday I don't see the big deal. A little alcohol here and there ain't gonna kill you or harm anyone, even at that age.

If he was driving while drinking however, I would definitely yell at his ass. That is totally wrong.

This idea that it is no big deal to drink under age is the wrong attitude for people to have.  It is illegal.  Now as for dealing with your friend go with your initial gut feeling when you thought about what to do if it is a feeling you can usually trust.  My gut feeling is always right but I don't know how it is for you.  I wish in my life I would have went with my gut feeling all the time but nope.  Also if this person values you as a good friend then the friend may be ok with you asking about what he is doing and if you value him as a good friend then if you are worrying about what he did talk to him about it.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

It's also illegal to have sex under a certain age, but people don't get sent to prison for it. (two consenting people around the same age that is)

Just leave it. Unless he's drinking so much he's puking all over the floor or he gets drunk constantly, it's nothing to worry about. Teens get drunk all the time.

Make sure he's not drinking too much.

3 shots and he was drunk? Either he is weak or lying. Also there is a lot worse things he could be doing than 3 shots of vodka.

Different people w/different tolerances, on top of people not feeling the exact same way after the same amount of alcohol.

I believe I drank for the first time when I was 16, wasn't wasted but drank a fuckton. As long as he doesn't become obnoxious or start messing w/people, I'd let it blow over. That is to say unless you actually have a problem with it. You should just mention it to him but I am 99% sure he will not give a fuck if he's already getting into drinking. And the longer you wait, the more OK he'll be with it anyway.

The problem I see is possibly who he's drinking with. For example, If I were 15 or a friend was, I would be avoiding/telling them to avoid drinking with 20+ year olds. Older kids/young adults have a strong influence on younger people even when not under the influence of alcohol. I've seen some stupid people do stupid things just to impress the older guy, and that was sober. Hell, I might've done it once or twice just to not look "coward" or some shit, but never anything major enough to make me worried.

In any case, do what you want or feel is right.. Don't try to push logical reasons like "it's illegal" or "you could get in trouble" because they know the consequences before getting into it. If you are concerned about them being safe or not getting into a group of idiots, tell them that you think it isn't a good idea and why. Either they're going to accept it and take the advice seriously, or they'll ignore the advice and continue doing w/e. Might even just be a one-time thing, who knows (I doubt it though; hear a lot of underage drinking happens in Aus, lol).

Edit: If it does become a serious problem, tell his parents or whomever. If that does nothing, try the school counselor. Won't elaborate why I think this is so important, but I have experience with people going down related paths at that age. Lots of problems.

As long as he causes no harm to him let him carry on, when he starts to hurt himself get him to stop.

Are there any other laws in Australia? Here in the UK it is technically legal to drink at home under supervision from the age of 5!

Same here, it's not allowed to sell them/buy for them alcohol. As for drinking at that age - messing around with some friends, not a big deal if it happens rarely. But drinking alone and getting drunk, that's sounds like there might be a problem.

let it slide as long he's harmless, just maybe keep an eye on it for his sake. Kids do stupid shit all the time, frankly because its fun once in a while. Just make sure that if he does cross the line you are prepared to step in or take some sort of action.

Dude your australian.

You should be into drinking at 16. :P

If you're obsessed about the law. Drinking under the age of 18 while at a private place (home) while being accompanied by an adult is fine. (I'm pretty sure)

I remember a cop coming to my school just before schoolies week and he said at 17 we are allowed to drink at private functions (home & friends house parties etc), just don't be caught with a bottle of alcohol on you in public.

It's better to develop a taste for it before you hit 18 or go to schoolies. That way you don't feel like you're pressured into getting drunk when there's parties.

When I was about 16, kids at school would have piss ups every week lol

But if you're not into drinking than I guess that's fine, not everyone likes it.

There's a high chance you will develop a taste for it when you're older though.

haha. Yeah I didn't mean trying his first drink at 16. I meant he should be well and truly into it :D

It's Australia mate, kids get drunk all the time. Personally I wouldn't get worked up about it, but I do go to school with some real bleach drinking idiots, but really, just let it pass. Nothing too major especially in aus. I mean I've gotten slightly drunk before and in 15ish

Just use your own judgement on things, the laws aren't always "right" or rock solid. Think on your own, have your own sense of direction.
