Ram help with build

Im building a PC for a friend and i need help deciding whether i should go for 3600mhz ram

Whenever i check i never get a solid "yes" answer to whether i should choose 3200 or 3600 mhz

Knowing the primary use of this rig would be very helpful when asking for build advice, so I am going to assume this is going to be used for gaming/browsing/mild streaming or video editing.

 

CPU: There is only a very marginal difference when gaming on a 3800X versus something like a 3600 or 3600X. Gaming in no way (at least today) would use all 8 cores of a CPU. That being said, thanks to the higher boost clock compared to the Ryzen 5, you would see a very very little improvement, but I don't think (IMHO) that the slight improvement is worth the extra money. You could save that money and spend it on a better GPU.

 

MOBO: You do not have any PCI-E Gen 4 components on this build sheet besides the motherboard itself, Therefore X570 serves no purpose unless you plan on doing some manual overclocking, in which case it would be okay to have. Choosing a B450 chipset would be more cost effective, especially if paired with a Ryzen 5. This could again be something you can save money on and put that saved money towards a better GPU.

 

Memory: Ask any forum member or watch any major tech youtuber and they will all tell you the same thing: 32GB of memory for a gaming computer is overkill. 16GB seems to be the sufficient capacity of memory for the time being. To answer your speed question, well, Ryzen generally pairs well with fast memory. 3200 is no where near slow. So for my honest opinion, if the price for 3600 speed RAM is not much more than the 3200, then go for it. 16GB of 3200mhz memory would be fine, and the G.Skill for the specific memory I am referring to is F4-3200C16D-16GTZR G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB 3200mhz CAS16. There are plenty of options on memory, most of which will save you money. If your sights are set on the Trident Z, this is a good kit. 

 

 

Bottom line, Underpowered GPU, and overpowered CPU, if all its for is gaming. Save yourself the money on the MOBO, CPU and Memory and put it towards a better GPU. Something like a 2060 or 2060 super. Heres my recommended part sheet (This is in no way the best recommendation, as there are multiple better options to save you money):

Thank you for your help, wouldnt i need to update the bios of the b450-f? Or is it 3000 ready out of the box? Also this build is mainly a workstation PC, barely any gaming will be done on it so thats why i went for an underpowered gpu and a better CPU.

You will get the extra ipc count and the extra hyper threaded cores 

But for ram the trident z is Samsung b die so it will be a breeze to oc (especially with the improved memory controller) 

But just simply 

Cl 16 3200 will be the same as a cl18 3600

The box would specify if it is Ryzen 3000 ready. If it is printed on the box it is likely updated to the earliest Bios for 3000 Support. 

 

That being said, if the system is more used for worstation tasks that are CPU heavy, depending on the tasks the Ryzen 3700X or 3800X would be a good way to go (Still supported on a B450 board, but an X570 wouldnt hurt), and I would still do a slightly better GPU but again depends on the tasks.
