Hy guys,

I stayed up until 3 AM debugging this strange issue but didn't have any joy. My pc would just power cycle whenever I'm playing a decently recent game (it happened with Watchdogs, Batman Arkham Knight and while running 3DMark Time Spy). I was able to reproduce the crash running a combined stress CPU+GPU test in FurMark. Then I started playing with a few things:

  • Undervolting the CPU didn't help (I recall that with Ryzen this might actually help)
  • Reinstalling graphics driver didn't help
  • Reinstalling games and programs didn't help
  • Reducing the power limit of the GPU to below 80% actually gets me to stability territory.

The last point leads me to believe that this is a power issue, but I don't see how a 65W TDP and a 150W GPU could saturate a 750W power supply.

I turn to you guys in desperate seek for help.

p.s:

One more thing I will try over the weekend will be do a fresh reinstall of Windows 10 (I could have screwed up removing some dlls and other files during a cleanup, but again I don't think this can be related).

System config:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • MB: MSI X570-A PRO (MS-7C37), BIOS version H.70 (latest)
  • GPU: GIGABYTE GTX 1070 WindForce 2X OC (GV-N1070WF2OC-8GD)
  • RAM: 4x4G Corsair LPX Vengeance 2800 (running at 2666, max freq i can get in BIOS. Higher and it won't even boot)
  • PSU: Corsair CX750M
  • Drives:
  •  - Samsung SSD 850 EVO 120GB (OS drive)
  •  - Samsung SSD 970 EVO 250GB
  •  - WDC WD10EZEX-00BN5A0
  •  - WDC WD10EZEX-00BN5A0
  •  - Seagate ST31000528AS
  • OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Education (x64) Build 18362.836 (1903/May 2019 Update)
