How to use post 2014 iMacs as Secondary Monitors

I have a 5k iMac from late 2015 and I am wondering if there is a way to use it as a second monitor. It doesn't have to be ok with apple, I would be okay doing some hacking. I think this should be looked into, but I can’t find anyone trying to do this. Maybe from a lack of tech savvy people owning iMacs.

Remote desktop software. You can't have video input into those and I don't believe there even is a mod for it, but I might be wrong.

this would be pretty hard to do, and might effect the aesthetics, but if you can get a controller for the panel off ebay and use that to convert the internal connector to an hdmi or similar input, and then cut a small hole in the back in order to plug in your cable... Haven't seen it done on imacs but it works on most laptops. You just need to be careful to get the correct controller.
