GF needs new Workstation GPU

Hey y'all,

Quick question I hope someone can answer for me. My girlfriend is making one last upgrade to her GPU in her workstation PC before we build her a new one. She needs something thats good for Premiere Pro and After Effects. I was looking at the Radeon Pro cards (W5500 probably) while she's looking at GTX 1660 Ti or possibly an RTX 2060 (budget is around $300-400). TBH when it comes to workstation GPUs I'm kinda lost, plus her CPU is a 4th gen i7-4820k so I was hoping someone could help us figure out if there'd be any bottlenecking with a newer/faster GPU. She currently has a GTX 1060 in the system. Thanks in advance.

I’m wondering if specifically an evga 2060ko might be the ticket.  The thing has some weird behaviors with some non gaming workloads where it behaves like a 2080 rather than a 2060 sometimes which can make it a great deal.  The only one I’ve heard it does that with is blender though, so you’d want to find out for the workloads she uses.  Might do nothing extra in that situation.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

what board you do you have as a cheap 2011 xeon may do well. E5-2690 V2 or E5-2680 V2 are decently fast 10 cores for about 100-150$

I'd almost say a used titain X for its large vram and performance around a 2060.

She mostly just does basic 4K 1-2 cam (with separate audio recording) video editing and uses AE for making animated title cards, transition effects, and similar things as far as I’m aware. No real 3D rendering or anything.

She’s not looking to upgrade the CPU since we’re building a new workstation later this year. Just the graphics card as a last hurrah to make the current build as decent as possible for rendering as a secondary editing station. (I did suggest possibly a new CPU but she doesn’t really want to do that on this machine)

From what I’ve read online from reputable sources (sorry I cleared my browser data since so I don’t have the actual sources), lots of VRAM seems to be mostly wasted with Premiere which steered us away from the Radeon VII.

okay. My point was it isn't much and 2011 boards are rare.

PP is horrible for AMD GPU. a Radeon Vii  has as much compute power as a 2089ti.

a RTX 2060 KO
