Budget (including currency): £900 to £1200

Country: United Kingdom

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming rig with the near plan for VR and future plan streaming

Other details: This is going to be a new build from scratch as my last PC (Built for me as a present) is outdated and I wanted to try my hand at this. I already have my monitor/keyboard/mouse/speakers so this is pure price on the computer build.

I saw the LTT video about the AMD Ryzen 3 3300x and since I was already looking at using an Intel core i5 I thought this could be a good summer project for me.

So I went on PC part picker and mixed some items up into:

Please could I get some help/ideas/suggestions on this. I would be looking for this to grow with me and expand over the years to come so help with future compatibility would be wonderful. Help would also be appreciated if this could do VR games.

I am also new to some tech speech so if you need to explain anything please imagine you are the author of the for dummies series, that could be exaggeration but I'm not sure.

Hey there,

welcome to the forum! I stuck with the lower end of your budget, so there is room for improvements here. Also it's an mATX build (smaller form factor) if that's ok for you. If you want a regular sized PC, you can do that no problem for the same price (get a MSI B450 A-Pro MAX instead and a case of your choice).

I went with a single 1TB NVMe SSD, a better video card, faster memory and a case with decent airflow. The NZXT H510 you chose is not terrible, but the airflow just isn't great.

Now if you were to invest a little more, you could go with a X570 build and ensure that you have a better upgrade path in the future, as X570 will support the upcoming Ryzen 4000 CPUs. Another option is to get a 3700X instead - those 2 extra cores might come in handy in the future when you start to stream - it's also a tad better when it comes to gaming in general. The PSU I chose is decent, you could upgrade that to a SuperFlower Leadex III for better quality and full modularity.

If you plan on streaming or recording, the 5700xt is very poor choice.  The encoder on the 5700xt is crap.  Get a 2060 or better.   It won’t outrun the 5700xt in FPS, but you will produce quality streaming and recording without a hit to your cpu.  This also frees you to buy the less expensive 3300x.

Buying an inexpensive 570 will give you better future compatibility, but you will have to decide if it is worth the extra $50 or more it takes to get there.  The NZXT 510 is fine for thermals, just not great.  I might look into a mini-itx case and and motherboard - especially since you seem to be budget restricted, however motherboard stocks are sometimes iffy.  Just make sure you don’t buy from scalpers.
