indeed, thats one of the reasons they plate the pins with gold. You have to consider if it is worth it for the looks yourself. I'm still thinking if i would do the same with my mobo.

I think to fill them up with some sort of liquid gel that gets like rubber when it cools down would do the job of protecting the inner connections of the slots while painting them and then you just remove it.
