You're probably just missing some software, are there any troubleshooting pop-ups when you see the message?

well FireFox says it isn't blocking pop-ups (I have them disabled but FireFox always announces when it blocks one).

When I set up Ubunto awhile back and tried to use Youtube on Firefox, I just remember having to install something further than what is installed by default.

When you installed Ubuntu, did you select the option to install additonal media formats?

I think so. YouTube did work fine before. But NBC (trying to watch SNL) worked and then didn't.
