5GHz anthenna on 2.4GHz wifi adapter

Go to solution Solved by Skiiwee29,

no, you will need a wifi adapter to support 5ghz.. the antenna means nothing if the chip on the card doesnt know how to use it.

So my current wifi adapter is 2.4GHz only and i wanted to upgrade to 5GHz for faster download speed (dont tell me to use lan cable). my current wifi adapter have an anthenna that's detatchable, if i switch the anthenna to the anthenna that does support 5GHz would the 5GHz work on my PC?

its worth noting that your router or whatever is transmitting your wifi signal needs to support 5ghz bands as well as whatever device is receiving the signal

Is this adapter for a laptop or desktop? What make/model of adapter do you have?

That adapter does not support 5GHz wifi so unless you swap it out with something that does, there is nothing you can do to get 5GHz wifi (provided your router does support 5GHz wifi). Antennas don't add or remove functionality
