I want to get into content creation and me and my family need a home server. what are the requirements?

Its for File Storage

Also is it possible to put an ethernet port into the server and the other end in the pc to make transfer faster?

Well... It depends. How much data? Do you plan to do anything else?

and for the ethernet, Unless both of the motherboard already support it, likely no. You might not need it if it's going to be a hard drive sever, as even a bunch of them in raid 0 or 10 are slow as $h!t.

$900 USD

Does tht include drives?

Wht network speed?

Fileserers don't need much in terms of performance, so althon or pentium will work fine.

What os do you want to use?

your isp speed doesn't matter for local transfers.

How bout this? add more drives if needed. Id probably run unraid. SHould easily fill a gigabit network.

I would reccomened just 2tb drives so he could do raid 0 and speed up the process. Thats also why  I added the R5, for its drive bays.

rid 0 relly wont here though. Your going to be limited with a gigabit network even with a single drive.

no it is not

what is it? if you have 300m from your isp, your probably don't have 100m.

Home networks are normally gigabit these days, some are 100m, this is differet from what your isp gives you.

Just saying, those are smr drives, so id say away if using them in raid.
