Do sound cards make a difference?

So, given the Tek Syndicate video saying audio cards don't do anything, I was wondering whether they actually do make a difference?

EDIT: Because people apparently make an inference that difference means better, it does mean better.

What do you define as 'different'?

A blue lollipop and a green lollipop are different

A blue lollipop and a chocolate bar are the same, in that they're both candy

There are too many variables and no information given to give an actual answer

Bringing up Tek Syndicate's video alone is grounds for starting a battle on here.

(note different =/= better)

Yes and no. It depends on the card you would implement and the sound processor on the board.

And where would you fit a sound card, mhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhm. Also you don't have high enough quality earphones for a soundcard to potentially be necessary. Yours are low impedance and soundcards, imo, are only needed on like $300+ MAYBE. I am looking at over $500 more

Did I say it was for myself? Also, this is irrelevant

no, that's where sound cards aren't (should not be used) needed. You skip straight to external.

It would be going into a $1000+ setup including speakers and receiver.

The receiver makes the soundcard pointless (assuming it's got digital inputs, of course).

Also, this poll's been done before so I have to ask - really?

Yes generally speaking they make a difference, they take up a slot in your pc and cost money.  Everything difference else is either use case specific or in your head.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

I don't think Tek Syndicate knows what a soundcard is, in the video they made it sound like it was a saltine that you stick in a PCI-E slot. It has an amp and dac built in, and in a large portion of people's opinions that makes it sound better.

LOL. So does the onboard sound (it too has dac+amp).. Louder =/= better. Also,'opinions'.... Read up the FAQ.
