I want to get into some FPS's and I don't know which one would be a good one to start and is just a good game in general. I would prefer not BF4 or COD. I am planning on getting Titanfall near release so not that either. Thanks

60. 60 is best FPS. Unless you have a 120/144hz monitor. Then 120/144 is best FPS.

But seriously, Planetside 2 (shear scale of battles).
Counter Strike if you are highly competitive, skillful, patient to learn, and don't care about eye candy.

Blacklight: Retribution if you like arcade-y sci-fi twitch based gameplay.
Hawken (Technically first person and a shooter)

Those are all multiplayer. For single player:

Bioshock (specifically Infinite, but 1 & 2 are good)
Metro: Last Light and 2033

Crysis 1 and 3 (2 was ok, but kind of meh in relation to the other two)

The FEAR series (same as with Crysis)

Red Faction series
Spec Ops: The Line (best of the Single Player FPS games not counting Infinite IMO)

Smartass

I add to my list (as I am now). I just usually start with a (regularly not funny) joke.

Not sure if you're not looking for these types of FPS but here are some good series that aren't competitive multiplayer games:

- Metro

- Bioshock

- Borderlands

- Fallout

More like COD and BF4, but COD is just annoying and the community sucks and BF4 is buggy as hell. I am already working on Bioshock series :)

Eh. More like science fiction technology wise. Not any space stuff. It's just a fun fast paced Free to Play online FPS.

Best competitive FPS of all time is Counter Strike 1.6, no questions!

CSGO is pretty meh but it's what you can easily play nowdays and at least it's half close to 1.6.

You should also check out Quake Live. It's a pretty good free version that's available to play.

If you want a single player experience I guess everyone would defo mention the Half Life series and Deus Ex.

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

I don't consider Single Player FPS games FPS's. When i thoink of FPS I think of online multiplayer.

You don't want me to say COD, Battlefield or Titanfall (the best FPS games IMO)

But I can honestly say that Red Orchestra/Rising Storm is a fantastic FPS, I love that game. The realism is what makes it, there is no other FPS that captures that kind of realism.

Counter Strike is decent I suppose, but it has a real Arcade like feel to it. Not realistic at all, and the graphics aren't very good.

Stay away from Arma 3, the game runs like garbabe, and it's hard to find a decent server that is open. One of the biggest wastes of my money ever.....

.. Counter-Strike 1.6, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat and Day of Defeat: Source. Damn you, Valve.

I'd say the Bioshock series. They're amazing in both story and gameplay experience.

...

And like Skcorpion86 stated, stay away from ARMA. Stay away from ARMA in general. Or any of it's mods.

Unless you're use to a lot of bugs, self fixes and modding.

If you are, then great. Go for it. ARMA engine has so many possibilities. You'll love it.

I don't really like fps games, especially modern ones. Titanfall was OK, Blacklight Retribution is pretty good as well (and it's free), but as far as singleplayer goes, to me the peak was Duke Nukem 3D. There were some better ones, like Half-Life and F.E.A.R., but the most fun FPS in later years was The Darkness II imo.
