I'm gonna be moving to europe in a few months and was wondering how practical it is to take a desktop as carry on for a flight, I don't want it thrown around. I currently have a cooler master 500p meshify and already know its too big, so I might just box up the components and get a cheap case at destination, but I'd rather have a case all ready to go. Was thinking along the lines of Master Box Q500L, Thermaltake Core G3(would require a sfx psu), or Rosewill Cullinan PX. Any recommendations or tips for flying with a desktop or cases?

If you really intend to go through with this, make sure to remove the GPU/other expansion cards, and the CPU cooler if it is large.

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Linux - Fedora

Ya I do still have all the original retail boxes, just getting a case overseas for me would require a trip into the closest major city. Is definitely the safest option, just not convenient for suitcase space.

Could you not get a case shipped, from a local retailer, to where you are moving or do you have to make the trek into a major city?

I will be on a limited budget with my purpose for going overseas being studies.

If you don't need the full power of your desktop PC while you're away, considering dropping $100-150 on a specced-out T420 instead. It's a lot cheaper than replacing components damaged in transit.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Anything heavy that can come loose I would remove and carry separately. Example, heat sink and GPU. This way in case of a drop, there are less things to rip off the motherboard.

AIO coolers are less likely to have issues if you are using one.

What I did was take my computer apart and put the components between my clothes in my suitcases and after settling in I bought a case and power supply at my destination.

At the time shipping was too expensive so if it did not fit into a suitcase it did not go.

According to Steve from GamerNexus, the Q500L has horrible airflow so you probably shouldn't buy it.
