My buddy's gaming rig needs some help..

My buddy built a gaming rig.. and its. Decent. I'll list the specs and the total cost, and let you guys see where he went wrong.

 

Intel i7 6700k at 3.6Ghz

Arctic Freezer Air Cooler in the white color

Asrock H270 Pro4

16gbs of G.Skill Trident Z Neo at 3600Mhz

Rtx 2060 Super Founders Edition

Samsung 860 Evo 500gb

Seagate Barracuda 2tb 7200rpm

NZXT H510 

EVGA SuperNOVA GA 550W 80+ Gold 

Corsair k68(I think) 

Razer deathadder elite

Corsair void pro usb 

Acer 27.0" 144 refresh, 1ms, TN panel.

 

Overall he spent about $1900.

Any suggestions on what he could've done better for the same price?

 

P.S. That motherboard cant overclock his i7, and it only supports memory up to 2400Mhz.. Plus, is 3600Mhz really that important for an intel based build..?

rx 5700 is better than the rtx 2060 super.

psu could be better like "corsair txm 550w or rm 550w"

there are cheaper ssd's

ram speed doesnt matter that much in intel build. that is wasted money there.

The i7-6700 is the problem. He should have went with a R7-3700X. That would had gotten him better performance + support for ryzen 4th gen.

why would he build a pc with 6700k when ryzen 5 3600 is much better

Other than that MB i'd say he did alright. He could've gotten a Z370 board for the same price if not less and would've been able to OC. I don't think any of the other items he could've gotten cheaper equivalents but for a little bit more could have gotten better spec'd parts.

true, but he still could have gotten much better pc. why would somebody buy i7 6700k and motherboard that cannot oc? without oc i7 6700k is mediocre at the best. this is pretty dump in my opinion, he should have made some research before buying these parts. he wasted so much money on this build.

I hope this is not in US prices, that's at the very least $200-300 too much for what he's got.

Depends on price, It's like $70 to $80 in the US to go from 3000MHz 2x8GB to 3600MHz 2x8GB

Yeah. I agree. He went to a friend of ours that bought his pc built from someone who doesnt know much.. and of course this friend is an intel fanboy I could've built him a pc for 300 to 400 less that can outperform his.. but oh well I guess.

I actually helped my brother put together a build for about 1100 total.. and besides the GPU, it out performs this intel build. I'm still shocked that intels $300 cpu only has 4 cores.. 

 

These are my brother's specs.

 

Ryzen 7 3700x

AMD Wraith Prism (should be fine for now) (keeps my 2700x cool, about 65c, and that draws quite a bit more than the 3700x)

Gigabyte b450 Pro Wifi (did some research to make sure it was 3000 series compatible) hes not planning on oc'ing past the xmp so this board will be fine

16gbs G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3600Mhz cl18

EVGA 2060 KO ultra gaming 

Crucial mx500 250gb ssd (256mb cache)

Seagate Barracuda 2tb 7200rpm

Fractal design focus g in black

EVGA superNOVA GA 550w 80+ gold

Logitech g910 Orion spark (he liked the look of it, has Romer g tactile switches, not too bad)

Logitech g502 HERO

Asus vg248qg 165Hz, 1ms, 24" (got this on sale for 200 new, not the the original 380)

Also threw in a Deepcool 3in1 rf120 fan pack. Fairly quiet with pretty good rgb for only $35.

 

Overall it's about $1440 (the irony)

It's just over $1100 with just the pc parts.
