Budget Camera for Photography

I want a camera solely for photography while video is not that important to me. I have a 500 budget but if the camera is over that is fine but it'll also be good if the camera is lower. Right now I'm eyeing the canon eos rebel sl3 and a Canon EF 50mm. Buying both refurbished off of canon will make it around 500. Is there anything I can get that is better for the price and is newer?

I'd grab youngonus 35 and 50mm for 150 vs canons 50mm. I'd also look at grabbing the refurbished 75-300 when you order from canon as it is 80$

 

I've got the Sl2 and the SL3 fixes some of the issues around the SL2. You aren't going to find anything newer. you could go to an slightly older more professional camera in a 77D.  the 2 are going to take almost identical pictures the 77D has a lot more buttons and has other features aimed at making photos easier to take. SL3 is lighter and smaller it will also do better time lapses. If I had my GF 60D I could give a size comparison.

 

For pure photos I'd grab the 77D

 

used options from B&H, adoramba, lens authority which is the selling of used rental gear from lensrental.

You can also find used options through mpb.com and KEH. I've ordered through the former a couple times and also sold to them, and I've heard a lot of good about the latter, and both have good reputations.

The SL3 is a great camera overall; 500 sounds like a good price for it. The M50 is another solid option.

I love the SL2 and the sl3 is an upgrade but for pure photos the 77D is better. it is going to shoot near identical pictures but has a lot more buttons and useful screens.
