Since you won't need more than 8gb of vram, this should do, otherwise you'd need to think into a 2080Ti, multiple GPUs or even a quadro.

I'm not sure if you would need more CPU power rather than GPU. If so, you could downgrade the GPU to a 2070S and try to grab a Ryzen 3950x. Also not sure if you need more than 32gb, but that should be an easy upgrade anyway.

Hello Community,

I have been doing my deep learning projects on my laptop + cloud. Also I do some light gaming.
As my projects are growing, I want to build a PC for my Projects and also for gaming. My budget is 2000€. I already own peripherals (mouse, keyboard, monitor, desk, etc) so this budget is only for the PC.

Now I need help from the community to select parts for this PC. Please help me with your suggestions.

Thanks

How big are your models? Can they run fine with 8gb or 11gb of VRAM? Can they be easily split into 2 cards? Picking a GPU would be easier knowing the answer for those things. Also what country are you from?

The models can run for now with 8Gb VRAM. And I do not think I would need more than that in the next year or so. I am from Germany.

Thank you for your detailed and quick answer. Do you have experience in ML or DL? Don't you think 12 Cores is an overkill as mostly python is used and it is a single threaded. Most of the calculations are done on the GPU and CPU is only used for pre-processing. So I might go for the 2080ti. Also how is the status of Ubuntu on Ryzen? I read it is good and people are not having problems but if you also do ML/DL then I would appreciate your experience.

Yeah, I do work with ML. More often than not I spend more time pre-processing stuff than actually training, that's why I left a 12-core in there. If you believe GPU power is more important, then surely go for the 2080Ti, that extra vram is always welcome.

I'm not an Ubuntu user myself, but the latest Ubuntu (20.04) should work flawlessly. You can check out some posts on phoronix for more info, like this one.
