Video editing recommendations

Hey all, I've been making tons of videos (mainly memes or compilations) in my free time during the quarantine. I've been using a free software called openshot for about a year now, and I recently realized that there's no way to overlay text onto your project. Be it with an opaque background or transparent, I haven't been able to figure out a way to make it work. The only solution I've found is to make an image with the text I want in MS Paint and then insert the image into my project, and that's a pain to do. So, I'm interested in finding another program. As I said, has to be free, and a ton of features aren't really needed but the text overlay is the main thing I'm missing. Thanks

Davinci Resolve 16.

The normal version (as opposed to the 'Studio' version) is entirely free and has a lot of features.

Included in those features is a text overlay function, which allows you to add text to your video, change its font, opacity, etc. It even allows for animations on that text.

There are a million other features that can be mentioned, but those might not be interesting depending on what you do (like for example picture in picture overlays, color grading, etc.)
