amd question

Go to solution Solved by thedangerine,

Each generation gets a new chipset, so we went from X370 to X470 to X570, however the socket has stayed the same so far and many of the chips are compatible across several chipsets

Does AMD change their chipset after two generations?

I know that intel change their chips it’s after two generation
How does it work with Amd?

Is AMD chipsets more future proof or what ?

when I say future-proof I mean that the AMD chip lasts longer with generation.

Well, right now, AMD kept Ryzen on the AM4 platform for 3 generations now. Will be 4 gens with the launch of Ryzen 4. So it is more futureproof. But on the AM4 platform, there is going to be only one more generation. Although the Chipset updates with every new generation.

Yes, in fact, they've released new chipsets every generation. It's just that they haven't released a new socket, and all chipsets on AM4 are compatible with all CPUs on AM4. (More or less)

Both Intel and AMD usually release new chipsets each CPU generation.

Yes, you could say that. You could have a Zen1 (gen 1) chipset mobo, and you could run a Zen2 (gen 3) CPU.
