New AMD PC Build

Hello!

 

1. Residing in the USA.

2. Aim: Playing modern games smoothly and sporadic streaming, Loads of watching content such as twitch/YouTube etc.

3. Monitors: Currently 1 1440p @60Hz.

4: Peripherals: They will be taken from current PC

5. Upgrading: Running games on low FPS and desire to maybe getting in to streaming is something i can't comfortable do right now.

I know i do not need a new case but i really would prefer to keep it.

Also, I know i can get some components a little cheaper but i am not 100% familiar with PCPartPicker.

If i can skip the GPU for another year (maybe prices will be dropping) would you suggest it?

Does the CPU/RAM upgrade be enough for now?

I am more looking for what would better suit me,

Which changes can be made to make it all more cohesive.

 

Point of worry for me is that i have no knowledge of BIOS updating, does my CPU match the motherboard without flashing it since i do not have another one in case it is not compatible on first boot.

how about changing it into 2070 super. yeah 16gb is plenty enough.

 

Yes you dont have to flash, you can also do that witht the MAX lineup from MSI.

 

The question is the PSU is it a good one or a questionable one thats what im concerned of.

Changed the MB for a cheaper one to get the 3700X while keeping about the same cost, all MSI "MAX" motherboards are Ryzen 3000 ready, and at this point most boards on the market already come with the bios required for Ryzen 3000.

The CPU alone won't be increasing your performance in gaming by much unless you're talking about competitive games where you play at low settings at over 150FPS, so upgrading only the CPU/MB/RAM won't do much if you don't upgrade the GPU at least not in graphics intensive titles. For other things like streaming the CPU would help, if it is worth only you can tell.

If you want to upgrade and the performance of the 2070/5700(XT) is enough for you then you should do it, otherwise keep your current PC until you have more money or the GPUs you can buy are fast enough for you. For example, I'm keeping my current GPU because only the 2080S and above deliver the level of performance I want, but I'm not paying $800 for a GPU so I'm waiting till I can get the performance I want for the price I'm willing to pay.

Also what are you going to do in the PSU front? If you say what is the exact model you got I'm sure people are going to say whenever it's worth upgrading or not.

If your PSU is as old as that computer dropping $100-120 Would be a smart thing to do and get a 80+Gold as a Bad psu can cause issues.

In build 2 look at the 3700 or 3700x as they are slightly cheaper than that price of the 2700x.

 

and on either the B450 should be fine unless you need PCIE 4. but with a 2070 pcie3 is all you will get.  and the MAX line means Ryzen 3000 compatible OOB.

 

and you could easily skip the GPU for now and wait for the New AMD or Nvidia Cards to come out they should drop the price of the current models.

There is normally a 2070 Super to be had at 499.  Amazon has the Zotac one in stock at that price and B&H has the Gigabyte one.  So you need another ~120 to get one.  Dump the fans and you're halfway there.  Dumping the case gets you the rest of the way there.  You can buy fans and move the computer to a new case later.  Adding CUDA cores to a GPU post purchase is not an option.  

 

Also pushing past 3200 MHz, while it does help the infinity fabric speed, is putting you into the land of diminishing returns.  I'd definitely want say a 2070 Super and 3200 MHz RAM over  2070 with 3600 MHz.  That's a place to maybe 10 bucks or so if you must.  I'd cut case and fans first though.

I have decided to wait with the case for now to put that towards components, as mentioned i can always swap the case. ( Thank You for that )

I still will look at my PSU and give an update tomorrow. If i can use it, i can drop the PSU. (It was bought about 2-3 years ago)
