Ryzen 1600 AF considered Zen or Zen+?

Greetings,

facing numerous issues running the Ryzen 1600 AF on my X570M PRO4. These include:

BIOS stuttering

Restarts not working, requires cold off/on to POST

Memory can't be OCd past default JEDEC, tried both XMP and manual

I had zero issues running the MB with a 3700X (BIOS v.2.30, tried 2.50 too). Some users have had success with the issues by downgrading the BIOS but I'm concerned whether this will render the BIOS incompatible? Do the X570-series require Agesa 1.0.0.4b to run the 1600 AF? Is it considered a Zen or Zen+ architecture by the BIOS?

it is ZEN+ and it SHOULD work just fine. Have you clean installed windows after the r7 3700x?

-do a windows clean install

-update all the drivers (chipset, lan etc, from manufactures site)

-update/downgrade the bios

QUOTE ME  FOR ANSWER.

Thanks, still trying to find a verification from someone with AsRock X570. With Easter coming and lockdowns in effect I can't afford a non-compatible system right now.

I haven't since the issues are on BIOS-level and occur without HDs installed. This is on the bucket list once the system runs as it should.

You mentioned you can't overclock your memory, so knowing what memory it is helps a lot.

Knowing if your PSU can handle lower C states for your processor helps a lot.

Any more attitude and i will just walk off.

As said I had zero issues with 3700X on this motherboard, the problems themselves are a cause rather than source. The question was under which architecture is the 1600 AF listed in terms of BIOS compatibility for the X570 series.

PSU is RM550x (2019) and RAM is F4-3200C16D-32GVK.

Why would you downgrade from a 3700X to a 1600AF? Have you tried using typhoon for the correct memory timings? Ryzen CPU's can be very finicky. You could try resetting all of your UEFI settings back to factory.

Ok the PSU is decent, your memory may not be overclockable as it depends on what manufacturer your D-RAM chips were made by.

Find your RAM in here by checking your RAM sticks information.

Of course they're overclockable. As said, everything worked out perfectly with the 3700X, RAM running 3600C15. They're Samsung B-die IC. Can you stop derailing the post any further please.

I feel like you're talking completely out of your ass. You ignored the initial question and proceeded trouble shooting something I never asked help for, because it's completely irrelevant here. Then you proceed to claim the RAM might not be overclockable when they're rated at 3200C16 in their name already, the manufacturer is again irrelevant here.

You're using a different CPU which may or may not react differently to the same RAM. It can matter.

Obviously, but even 2400 is unbootable which pretty much means there's an incompatibility rather than instability. I should have been clearer on the topic, still only curious about whether the 1600 AF is considered Zen or Zen+ by the BIOS.

It is a Zen+ CPU, the BIOS should recognize the chipset.

I think it's more likely the ram is causing your issue, zen+ has much more trouble with ram compared to zen2.  Might also be a bios problem.

@gouca keep in mind there were improvements to the CPU's Integrated Memory Controller (I.M.C.) from Zen/Zen+ (e.g. 1600AF) to Zen2 (3700X).

It will / might be a struggle for the 1600AF to run your DRAM at 3200 MHz.

Try and see if DDR4-2933 (while using XMP timings and voltage) is possible first.

Matisse is Zen2 (e.g. your 3700X):

Pinnacle Ridge is Zen+ (e.g. Ryzen 2000 series, 1600AF):

image.png.df792762fbbabb305c0ecc46a7aef89e.png

Picasso (Ryzen 1000 series) is even worse...
