If this is your monitor, it stays 1920x1080 refresh rate is 144hz through Display port. At the bottom 3-8.

Ive got a 144hz 1080p monitor Asus VG248
And as cable ive got is "Goobay HDMI 2.1 8k Ultra High Speed"
And its specs on the store page i found from: 8K@60Hz and 4K@120Hz. so if its able to pull 4k@120hz where is my option for 144hz at 1080p doesnt make any sense.

Cant see the option to switch any higher than 60hz on windows settings and nvidia control panel.

I have DVI cable but its no longer an option because my gpu doesnt support it.

Make sure your monitor doesn't only output 144hz on display port cable. Might only go up to 60hz on HDMI. Check manual or box, it should tell you.

This is my local hardware shop https://www.verkkokauppa.com/fi/catalog/711b/Videokaapelit and what exactly in terms of displayport cables am i supposed to pick? id rather not go back and forth due to the virus ravaging the area.

From what I could tell, it doesn't appear that website had a proper Display Port from what I can see. You'll probably have to try something like Amazon. Sorry couldn't have been more of a help. Good luck, though!
