Fake Graphics Card?

Hello, not a tech savvy person by any means.

I bought a used pc for cheap from Facebook marketplace. Once I set it up, the resolution was 1280x1024. I didn't think much of it, I thought it was easily changeable with upgrading the drivers. Once I finally set everything up, downloaded the drivers, the max resolution I can set it to is still 1280x1024. I checked dxdiag and it says that the graphics card is 4gb but it doesn't seem to recognize it. It recognizes it as Microsoft basic display adapter. I checked how the card looks itself, if I'm correct I believe it's Gtx570 twin frozr II. I checked the rams online it says it's 1.5 or 1.25. Currently I haven't gotten a way to connect to the internet on that pc. But I will get it going soon. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong here exactly and how to fix it perhaps?

Run gpuz. It will detect if the gpu is real or fake.

Im with the mentaility of "IF IM NOT SURE IF ITS ENOUGH COOLING, GO OVERKILL"

For one, you might want to take a couple of pictures of the GPU and post the pictures here. Try to take it in a room with lots of light, but don't use camera flash.

Secondly, did you download the drivers from NVIDIA's website?

If it's a GTX 570 it doesn't support the latest drivers. Should the card be a GTX 570 or something else? I don't think any fake GTX 570's exists

the 1280x1024 restriction is usually the max that default "windows display drivers" will let you use iirc.. I had a GTX570 and ran a 1920x1200 monitor on it, so it definitely will go higher than that, should be a 1280mb card as those were most common

 

I do hope you did not pay alot of money for this system. as the GTX570 is a VERY old GPU these days (Going on 10 years now) and honestly isnt going to do very well due to the very tiny amount of VRAM

 

1. Run GPU-Z, will tell you if its authentic or not

 

2. Download the drivers direct from nvidia for the GTX 500 series
