problem with quake 3 and 1060 evga FTW

Tomino

Hi .

My quake 3 is running very smooth on 250 fps but every 30 sec or so i have freez for 1 sec or drop fps . I notice i have dynamic GPU clock speed(830 - 1700mhz). When i lock clock  speed in evga software on 2020 mhz game runs fine .

Or i can set max fps 125 and quake start running good cause it lower gpu clock to 500 mhz , but 125 fps looks bad .

I had this also on cs1.6 so i set in nvidia control panel - adaptive power option , now cs is locked on 139 mhz gpu clock speed and running smooth . This option doesnt work on quake .

Is there any other way how can i lock boost not on 2020 mhz cause gpu gettin hot but some lower clock like 300 mhz ? thanx .

evga 1060 6gb FTW

i5 4690k OC 4200

8gb ram .

650 Watt seasonic focus .

Sory for my englando

Thanx

How does it look bad? Unless you have a 144hz monitor or higher you shouldn't see any difference at all.

As for freezing - are you playing online?

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

Set the power mode to "Prefer maximum performance" in the Nvidia Control Panel.

Try installing the game on an SSD, if it isn't already.

So did you check the usage of the system while doing any of this?

Having a high frame rate and having a slow cpu can make it seem bad.

Also don't see what the cpu not downclocking has to do with it, its gonna stay high for a reason. Putting the pc on performance mode and using certain programs with yield that.

Main RIg Corsair Air 540, I7 9900k, ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero, G.Skill Ripjaws 3600 32GB, 3090FE, EVGA 1000G5, Acer Nitro XZ3 2560 x 1440@240hz

Spare RIg Lian Li O11 AIR MINI, I7 4790K, Asus Maximus VI Extreme, G.Skill Ares 2400 32Gb, EVGA 1080ti, 1080sc 1070sc & 1060 SSC, EVGA 850GA, Acer KG251Q 1920x1080@240hz

quake 3 is using like 30 % vga and 8% cpu . also it works on ECO mode . all time 800 mhz all 4 cores . and it drops only 5fps . So  i can play now high performance or low eco mod . why not normal where is cpu and vga dynamic mhz.

Quake 3 can run smooth on 2005 year PC
