Hello everyone!

New member here and wanted to get started on the right foot and introduce myself.

Used to be a huge tech nerd back when I discovered Linus doing videos and reviews for NCIX but have fallen off the bandwagon since then. Obviously the tech has improved a huge amount since I last really kept up so I'll be relying on the community here for some insight as I update my knowledge.

Couple things I want to ask for direction first:

1) If I have a grasp of an idea but need direction or opinions on implementation, which sub-forum would be best to post that in?
2) Where are some places that you're sourcing equipment and parts from? I usually do Amazon or my local Canada Computers, but if there's better options, please let me know!
3) What topics/threads should I be reading up on to start my catch-up?

Thanks in advance to the community! I hope everyone is staying safe from the current crisis!

As for directions, probably just the closest sub forum you can find, if it's a GPU question than in the GPU sub forum and so on. You can ask in the "Moderators on the forum" topic here in offtopic.

As for your other questions I can't really help you, I just lurk.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
        In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
        In Flanders fields.

Hey there! Welcome!

  • I'd recommend checking out the forum Community Standards and Forum FAQs.
  • Please quote or tag (type "@") people to reply specifically to another member's message. Your quote or tag will let the other member know that you've responded to their message.
  • Have fun!

As for your questions:

  1. What is your question about? If it's about specific PC components or gaming, each type of PC part/gaming platform has its own sub-forum. For general tech-related questions, the General Discussion sub-forum is usually the place to go. For non-tech related questions that don't fall into any other category, post in the Off-Topic sub-forum.
  2. For Canada, I believe Memory Express is a popular pick.
  3. Depends on what you're interested in. What I do is pick sub-forum that interests me, read up on all the sticked threads, and then find a topic that interests me to read and maybe reply to.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick replies and suggestions!

Essentially what I want to do is keep my current tower in the basement/cold room and be able to access it through a local lan in my home office 2 stories up via a laptop or a 'thin computer' (I think that's what that's called) as if i'm right infront of it. I thought of just running really long HDMI/USB cables but then learned about signal loss. Just looking for guidance on 1) where to post the details to get the advice and 2) guidance on the implementation and such of my other IoT devices.

Thanks!
