So what's the deal with the current monitor market? I.E 240Hz+. Are monitors that far ahead, or are GPUs behind?

So unless I'm mistaken, 1080p 240Hz seems to be becoming more popular with gamers now, with some people also trying to move to 1440p 144hz. We're already starting to see some 1080p 280Hz panels and even a 1080p 360Hz Panel, but the question I want to ask is this;

Do we even have the GPUs aside from the extremely expensive 2080 Tis to support 240Hz? Let alone these even higher kind of framerates other than playing games like CSGO or Overwatch on minimum/low settings?

What's the kind of hardware-level needed to play some of these triple AAA games like Doom Eternal, COD etc at 1080p 240Hz or 1440p 144Hz with decent graphics settings such as High?

You need some pretty good components for high refresh even with lowering settings...

1440p 144hz is doable on like a gtx 1080 without much problems.

The thing is that like nobody can even sense the difference between a 144hz panel and a 240hz panel. It's basically the 100hz vs 144hz panel thing again just with even less people that can reliably notice the difference.

 

It's one of those numbers games where the higher number is better so I will buy that in the consumers eyes.

There may be some truth to high refresh helping, tho it's more nuanced...

I am aware of this but this test would need to be done again with a larger control group. This test shows that 100hz or up is good for gaming basically

Agreed, but there isn't such a test so referencing what's out there. 

 

Everything needs to be taken with a full shaker of salt.  I've ever used anything more than a 100Hz panel, so can't speak to it from experience.

I've used quite an array myself and I start to not see a difference at 90hz on a lcd panel and at 75hz on a crt. I know people that can see the difference between a 100hz and 144hz monitor but those 2 are amateur pro counterstrike and overwatch players :p.
