Fun with a Sempron

So i had a few hours spare today and felt like overclocking a bit. My 4670K has no more to give with it's current cooler so i turned to the other CPU in my house, a Sempron 190 X2. 

 

This beast comes stock clocked at 2.5Ghz and i managed to get it running at (Rounded up) 4.2Ghz. It would simply not go any higher than that no matter how hard i pushed the voltage. At the end of it the northbridge was too hot to touch but the CPU remained cool despite using the stock cooler.

Sadly i didn't have time to do any benchmarks :(

I couldn't change the voltage either, i had to downgrade to an older BIOS.

Well, why not do a little modding to the NB? Bigger/better heatsink or just put a fan over it?

I couldn't change the voltage either, i had to downgrade to an older BIOS. 

I was doing an easy software OC, so I might be able to change it in the BIOS. But the NB was starting to change colors....

There really isn't much you can do, besides watercooling it. Even with the large heatsink on my AMD motherboard (ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3) it still gets super hot.

I superglued a 50mm fan from one of the original Xboxes on, and it moves a decent amount of air, and, like I said, the NB heatsink changed colors.

It basically had a GPU heatsink on it (damn near identical to what was on the original Xbox).

It has a mediocre copper one with that 50mm Xbox fan re-superglued to it. Running it stock now. Until I can get better cooling.

Yes. Perfect. I was thinking you should stick on this old heatsink I have. It's actually a stock heatsink from a Compaq business grade desktop. It's made entirely of copper and has a 4000RPM blower fan. On max speed my P4 used to run really cool.

You are definetly joking. Maybe the superglue reacted with the coating of the heatsync, Pictures please! I will be like....your fan if it shines RED by itself. :D

So i had a few hours spare today and felt like overclocking a bit. My 4670K has no more to give with it's current cooler so i turned to the other CPU in my house, a Sempron 190 X2. 

 

This beast comes stock clocked at 2.5Ghz and i managed to get it running at (Rounded up) 4.2Ghz. It would simply not go any higher than that no matter how hard i pushed the voltage. At the end of it the northbridge was too hot to touch but the CPU remained cool despite using the stock cooler.

Sadly i didn't have time to do any benchmarks :(

I wonder what the Single core performance is like. Probably better than FX.

 

I might have to dig up some of my old rigs. I had a Conroe Pentium that did 3.2 (1ghz OC) on Stock cooling / voltage and a cheap Foxconn G31 board.
