I don't know how to get FAH to work. Installed FAH, it won't run.

I installed FAH, and it will not run. I click on Folding@Home on my start menu, and nothing happens.

If it helps, I followed the FAH windows installation guide, I get up to Figure 7 with the completion of the installation, but I don't get a popup of the F@H window, nor a Windows Security popup.

EDIT: i went to the web control, it can't connect to my client and times out.

check to see if some system program is blocking it for some reason, like an antivirus or something? I think with the big mining craze a lot of antivirus software started blocking programs that were asking for lots of compute resources. Just a hunch

Can you run GPU-Z and post a screenshot of what it says please. I've had a problem like this before and it was because OpenCL drivers weren't properly installed.

Yep, same problem I've had before. Down the bottom OpenCL is unchecked meaning it's not detecting OpenCL properly. OpenCL is required to run Folding@home.
This is a driver issue.

Try running DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to uninstall your display drivers and then install the latest version from the nvidia website. If that doesn't fix it let me know and there's some other stuff you can try, but DDU'ing and reinstalling should do the trick.

Damn! Was hoping that would work.

Boot in to safe mode

DDU the display drivers for both Nvidia and Intel iGPU drivers.

Reboot

Install Nvidia drivers

If that still doesn't work then find

C:\Windows\System32\OpenCL.dll

Rename the OpenCL.dll file to oldOpenCL.dll or move it to a folder on the desktop

And reinstall drivers again.

@Metallus97 & @GOTSpectrum any idea? I've had this myself before and it was due to it not detecting OpenCL drivers but the above steps have always fixed it for me.

I probably need to reinstall windows, but at this point i'm cranky and tired. Will try something else in the morning. Maybe a windows reinstall.

Hmm I don’t think it is connected to the OpenCL drivers. IMO this would not lead to the FAH control not showing, but to the GPU slot not showing up or failing.

Did OP try to uninstall FAH with Revo uninstaller and did he click the  “delete data” option when uninstalling FAH? I once had this problem fixed by doing that...

Also sometimes the window does not come up, but you can maximize it from the taskbar.

Just generally: win10? Is it up to date?

That's normal at the moment. Lots and lots of people folding and there's not enough work units to go around. If you just let it run it should keep checking for work units and will automatically start running them when one is available.

If after 30-60 minutes it still hasn't found one, hit the pause button and then resume it by pressing the Fold button and that will force it to recheck for more work units.

Took a nap, nothing happened in the time between. I stopped it and restarted, and the CPU picked up. GPU is not.

Those errors are related to the server issues and work unit shortage they're having at the moment.
Not a problem with anything on your end, everyone is getting it. Not enough WUs to go around and the servers just can't keep up with all the demand.
